Student Exchange to IIUM (Julietta Khairun Nissa)

“Speech is a prayer.” I never imagined that the words I casually spoke during an online meeting with representatives from the Indonesian Student Association in Taiwan last February would become a reality. At that time, I took part in an online meeting with members of the Indonesian Student Association in Taiwan to discuss the HMPS-PS work program. This program aims to enrich the knowledge of Islamic Banking students regarding studying abroad programs. During the meeting, a member asked me if I had the opportunity to participate in a student exchange program, which country would I choose to go to? Without much thought, I spontaneously answered Malaysia, due to its proximity and cultural similarity to Indonesia. Now, I find myself at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), thanks to the opportunity provided by my faculty and study program.

My arrival in Malaysia has brought me numerous new experiences, beginning with familiarizing myself with the learning system at IIUM. Despite initially encountering challenges in adjusting to the learning system at IIUM, my strong determination has now led me to feel happy and excited about engaging in the learning process here. I have also had the opportunity to befriend individuals from different countries who have come to study at IIUM. Our interactions not only entail exchanging knowledge about each other’s cultures but also offer valuable global perspectives. This has provided me with an opportunity to not only learn about their cultures but also to understand the challenges and successes within an educational context.

This student exchange has been an extraordinary opportunity for me to grow and develop as a more knowledgeable and open-minded individual. I am very grateful for this opportunity and hope to continue making positive contributions during my stay here. That concludes my report on the student exchange experience at IIUM. I express my gratitude for the support and cooperation provided by all parties during my time here.
