The Impact of International Accreditation: UIN Sunan Kalijaga Lecturers Participate in Overseas Short Course in Turkey

The international accreditation recognition is seen as the path for UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta to become a World Class University. This is outlined in the UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta’s Master Plan for Development (RENIP), which envisions becoming an internationally renowned university, particularly for its Islamic Studies program. Therefore, the development of academic capabilities, networking, and international collaboration among universities is crucial for lecturers, both individually and collectively as an institution.

To strengthen the international atmosphere on campus, two UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta lecturers, Alex Fahrur Riza, SE., M.Sc., CMA. (Lecturer of Sharia Banking Study Program at FEBI and Marketing and Sales Manager at the Business Development Center) and Fatiyah, S.Hum., MA. (Lecturer of History and Islamic Culture Study Program at the Faculty of Adab and Cultural Sciences), participated in an Overseas Short Course held from December 9 to 22, 2023, in Istanbul, Turkey. This short course covered three areas: overseas research methodology, overseas academic writing, and overseas community development, organized by the Directorate of Islamic Education of the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia.

The Overseas Short Course activities were facilitated by the Research Centre for Islamic Economics (IKAM) with several expert speakers in their respective fields, including Research Preparation by Prof. Dr. SAİM KAYADİBİ, How to Publish Research and Collaborations by Dr. Öğr.Üyesi MURAT YAŞ, How to Use Academic Sources and Referencing Styles by Dr. Öğr. Üyesi Ayşen BAYLAK GÜNGÖR, and Micro-development Policies, Poverty Alleviation Policies and International Development Across the Islamic World Agencies by Mustafa Metin Başbay Ph.D.

In addition to attending classroom learning related to academic writing, research methodology, and community service, the short course participants also visited Medeniyet University, Marmara University Institute of Islamic Economics and Finance, as well as various NGO institutions and historical sites related to Islamic culture. Furthermore, the short course participants wrote papers and presented them to receive feedback from the professors. Additionally, the participants collaborated on writing a book entitled “Inspiring Writing from Istanbul.” The short course participants hope that this activity can provide benefits and contributions for individuals, academics, and the UIN Sunan Kalijaga institution in achieving the vision of becoming a World Class University.
