Public Lecture 2023: Islamic Banking and SDGs

In 2023, the Islamic Banking Study Program held a Public Lecture for all its students, with the objective of enhancing the knowledge and skills of Islamic Banking students and promoting literacy on current issues within the Islamic Banking industry. The public lecture took the form of an International Seminar under the theme “Islamic Banking and SDGs: Current Issues and Future Challenges” and was conducted on Tuesday, September 5, 2023, at the Convention Hall of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta.
Differing from previous years, this Public Lecture featured international speakers, including Dr. Md. Abu Jahid, currently a Visiting Assistant Professor in Accounting at the University of Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta. Additionally, domestic speakers such as Nada Fajriah, an Analyst at the Islamic Banking Department of OJK, and Dr. Siti Nur Azizah, S.E.I, M.E.I, a Lecturer at FEBI UIN Sunan Kalijaga, shared their expertise. These speakers effectively engaged students in understanding the current issues and future challenges of Islamic Banking in relation to the widely discussed Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The topics covered included the role of Islamic Banking in SDG implementation, including (a) the commitment and manifestation of the banking sector represented in the form of SDG implementation in achieving a sustainable society; (b) supporting global and national government SDG programs; and (c) promoting sustainable welfare through Islamic banking and SDGs through shared common values.
